Each tier adds something concrete. Posturepedic gives you PrecisionFit™ Coils, a MoistureProtect™ cover and a Coil Edge. Plus adds encased coils and the DuraFlex™ Coil Edge. Pro adds MaxSupport™ Technology through the centre and a cool-to-the-touch cover. Elite adds SealyChill™ cooling and ComfortSense™ Gel Memory Foam. They are model names, not tiers. Medina II sits in Posturepedic, Patterson II in Posturepedic Plus, Dupont II in Pro, and Albany II, Brenham II and High Point II in Elite. Each name then comes in several builds and firmnesses, which is why the list looks longer than it is.

The difference is the amount of foam above the coils. The spring builds put you more on top of the mattress - responsive, easy to move on, and cooler by default. The hybrids add memory foam for more contouring at the shoulder and hip, and they pass less movement across the bed. Same support system underneath either way.

PrecisionFit™ Coils are shaped so they give way under the heavier parts of you and hold firm elsewhere, which keeps the spine level instead of letting the hips drop. MaxSupport™ Technology, from the Pro tier upward, concentrates that support through the middle third of the mattress, where most people carry the most weight.

It is a reinforced perimeter, standard from Posturepedic Plus upward. It matters more than people expect: it stops the side collapsing when you sit down to put your shoes on, and it means you can sleep right to the edge of a Queen instead of losing a few inches to a soft border.

The question is usually support rather than firmness. A sagging mattress lets the hips drop and bends the lower back; a mattress that is too firm leaves a gap under the lumbar curve. Posturepedic Pro and Elite give the most targeted support through the middle, and our ScanFit body scan narrows it from there. The softer surfaces, so the shoulder and hip have somewhere to go: Medium and Medium-Plush, usually in a hybrid or a Euro pillow-top build. The Elite Brenham II Euro pillow top is the softest surface in the Sealy range we stock.

Firmer, flatter builds. The tight tops in Firm, Ultra Firm or Extra-Firm keep the hips from sinking - the Elite Brenham II Ultra Firm is the firmest bed we stock. Stomach sleepers in particular should avoid a deep pillow top.

Anything from Posturepedic Plus upward, because the encased coils move independently and stop one person's turning over reaching the other side. If you want different firmnesses, a Split King on an adjustable base gives each of you your own.

The taller builds with the most coil support: Pro and Elite, in a spring or hybrid rather than a deep plush pillow top. The DuraFlex™ Coil Edge matters more here too, because it is what keeps the sides of the bed usable over time.

Yes. The hybrids and most of the spring builds flex on a base without any trouble, and we have them set up in the showroom so you can see how your model behaves before you buy. Very tall pillow-top builds are the ones worth testing first.

A Sealy spring mattress is happy on a traditional foundation, a platform bed or an adjustable base. What it must not sit on is a sagging old box - that is the quickest way to turn a good mattress into a bad one and to void a warranty claim. If your frame uses slats, they should be no more than about three inches apart.

Every mattress we sell carries our Limited Lifetime Warranty, our 365-Night Comfort Guarantee and our 1-Year Price Guarantee. We are an authorized Sealy retailer, so the full manufacturer warranty applies as well, and we handle the claim from the showroom you bought from.

That is what the 365-Night Comfort Guarantee is for. Sleep on it, and if the feel is wrong you exchange it for a different one within the year. We do not do returns, so the guarantee is an exchange rather than a refund - which is also why we would rather you spent twenty minutes on the floor getting it right the first time.

Look after it and you should be thinking in years rather than seasons. Do not flip it - these are one-sided - but rotate it head to foot a couple of times a year, support it properly underneath, and use a breathable protector. A stain is one of the few things that will void a warranty claim.
